Excellence by Association ~ 2

I took some time to read the story of the Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville who are acclaimed to have designed and piloted the first aircraft. Such a beautiful story. None of these two brothers finished from high school. Wilbur suffered from depression after a hockey accident that he was involved in. But behind closed doors, he gave himself to intensive reading. Later, as newspaper printers, these brothers discovered they were also crazy about bicycles. Then, they worked together to build and fly the first fully practical airplane. Talk about iron sharpening iron!

The people we relate with over time become us. And we become them. The greatest good any Exceller can do for himself/herself is to get surrounded with positive influence!

Be deliberate about your atmosphere and environment! Surround yourself with love. Surround yourself with colour. Surround yourself with green. Surround yourself with positivity. Surround yourself with dreams and vision.

Your eye-sight, mind-sight and foresight are very important. God promised to Abraham, the Father of faith; “Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are to the North, South, East and West. For all the land which you see, I will give to you and your seed forever.” Gen 13:14 – 15. Very often, you need to lift your head and look towards the horizon. Our God is able to give lands for possession as far as our eyes can see!

Faith comes by hearing the word of God inspired by His spirit. Read your Bible every day and associate with Bible loving people.

There are 3 kinds of association that you need as an Exceller:

1. Excellence Mentors: There must be people ahead of you who spur you to greater heights. Listen to them. Read their books. Read their stories. Relate above your horizon. It is not enough to see things at your nose level.

Be careful however that you do not idolize or worship any fellow human. Remember that we have only one true Father who is God in heaven.

2. Excellence Fellows: At your level, there must also be people who you partner with to achieve excellence. Study group members. Prayer partners. Business partners. If you are studious and resourceful, you will attract the right kinds of colleagues. Or you can meet those people and request to be their partners when you notice that they are resourceful.

Note that for students, I strongly recommend that in addition to your personal studies, you have a study group with which you discuss course content and practice sample questions together.

3. Excellence Mentees: You must also be willing to give out. God did not design any system to only be receptors but also to be donors. Every organism and macrocosm has the ability to feed and excrete; to be birthed and to reproduce. At every level in your life, it is important to seek those who you will impact with the things that you are learning. That way, you too will grow.

In engineering, we say that a heat engine is a device that receives heat from a Heat Source (Reservoir), converts some of it to useful Work and rejects the remaining heat to a Heat Sink (Reservoir). Be like a heat engine. Be a channel of blessings!

With much love to you, dear reader friend.

Design Model

Design could mean a lot of things.

To a fashionista, design is a uniquely beautified kind of clothing or accessory.

To an architect, design is the blueprint of elements that make up a building structure so that it meets a specific intent in mind.

For artists, experts believe that ‘good art is a talent, good design is a skill’. A design seeks to communicate something that already exists (probably in the mind of the artist) for a purpose.

In chemical engineering, equipment design is the process of selecting, sizing (with respect to maximum and minimum capacity of operation) and detailed specification (especially operating conditions of temperature, pressure, flow rate among other parameters) of equipment used in full-scale processes.

You will notice similarities in every field;

A design model must have a designer, detail (specification or uniqueness) and an objective/purpose.

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above- spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Ephesians 2:10 (AMP)

Read the above verse again, slowly. It really is talking about you!

From it, we see that the:

  1. MANUFACTURER/ DESIGNER/ POTTER/ ARTIST/ AUTHOR/ WRITER: God Himself.
  2. MODEL: You. Me.

Actually, we are more than just a model. We are His masterpiece! Bearing His signature. If you don’t know what this means, check out with someone who has a book that was originally autographed by an old author. Or someone who is a designers’ shirt freak. It is an honour!

  1. SPECIFICATION/ DETAIL: Created in Christ Jesus. Born again. Spiritually transformed. Renewed at heart.

This is the root of the matter, the qualification, the making.

Have your sins been washed by the blood of Jesus? Has the cross of Jesus broken the power of sin and Satan from your life? That is the first detail to ensure. You can ask Jesus to do this for you now. Just ask.

The next detail is to start living daily IN Jesus. Allow the Bible to change your heart and lifestyle. Pray about the words you read until the Holy Spirit makes them your reality. Do it consistently. Don’t give up. Don’t be distracted from it.

  1. OBJECTIVE/FUNCTION: Just as every equipment has a function. Here is ours.

Good works. We are saved unto good works. But it is not just any good work lying around. The ones He prearranged for us. He wrote them in a script. He has them in mind for us to walk in.

As we walk consistently with the Holy Spirit, He will order our steps every day to those paths.

Those are the paths of destiny.

A lot of young people are confused. They want to know what their destiny is. They seek a meaning to their lives. Is it all about going to school, getting a certificate, making a family and retiring rich? If you want to fulfill destiny, this is the path – the Designer’s prearranged plan.

Written with much love for you, dear reader – friend.

FLUID FLOW IN A PIPE – CHANNELS ONLY

images-30

Pipe flow simply refers to liquid flow within a closed conduit. E.g. a pipe connecting water from a tank to your kitchen tap.

Every Christian wants to be like a pipe or channel through which Jesus flows from their hearts to the world. Remember this hymn:

Channels only, blessed Master /But with all Thy wondrous pow’r /Flowing through us, Thou canst use us /Every day and every hour.

We all want to impact others positively. We want to contribute to a change that is bigger than any of us. But how does this work in principle? What is the technical requirement for Jesus to flow like a fluid from our lives to the people around us. Let’s take a look at fluid dynamics.

Energy in a pipe flow is expressed as ‘head’ or ‘head pressure’ and this is defined by the Bernoulli’s principle.

Bernoulli’s principle states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid’s potential energy. VenturiFlow

Now, this principle also works hand in hand with the law of conservation of energy which states that the total sum of energy changes in a system is always constant. That is, the sum of kinetic energy, potential energy and internal energy changes along a steady flow streamline remains constant.

Therefore, if the speed of the fluid increases (i.e. an increase in its kinetic energy and dynamic pressure = ρv2/2), it is accompanied by a decrease in the sum of its static pressure (P), potential energy and internal energy.

Total pressure = Static pressure + Dynamic pressure

Check this analogy from Wikipedia:

If a small volume of fluid is flowing horizontally from a region of high pressure to a region of low pressure, there is more pressure behind than in front. This gives a net force on the volume, accelerating the fluid along the streamline.

Meaning: The more of Jesus I have on the inside of my heart, the higher the dynamic pressure and kinetic energy of my faith and the higher the velocity of the flow of Jesus from my life and the force of my impact. Glory!

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. (Philippians 2:13)

For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. (II Corinthians 2:15)

Friend, I don’t know about you, but I need Jesus. I need more and more of Him in my heart until he takes over me and overtakes me and overwhelms me and overflows from me. Lol! Wow! I think you also need him. Let’s press in. Read more about God from the Bible. Pray fervently from your heart. Seek to feel his presence with every passing minute. Run away from every sin, friend and habit that displeases God. If you have less of Jesus, your dynamic pressure and fluid velocity will decrease and I’m afraid that your static pressure will increase and I only hope that it does not reach the stagnation pressure which means, no flow. That will not be the portion of any of us in Jesus’ name. Amen.

He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30)
